drying time: A minimum of 24 hours with ventilation • coverage: 10-15 square metres per litre

application and advice

application
Seal porous surfaces with a Polyvine varnish. Apply thinly using a good quality brush. It is important no brush marks are visible these will show though the metal leaf. The size can be diluted with water to avoid brush marks. Leave for at least 15 minutes, the film will clear and remain tacky. The surface will then be in a prime state ready to receive the leaf. This prime state will remain indefinitely. It is important to completely cover all the size with the metal leaf, no size should be left uncovered.

caution
Always try the technique on a test piece before embarking on the project.

storage
Protect from extremes of temperature during storage and application.

health, safety and the environment
Non-hazardous. Ensure good ventilation.
Keep out of reach of children. Contact with eyes - wash immediately with warm water. Remove excess from tools and mixing vessels before washing in warm soapy water.

drying time: see datasheet • recoat time: N/A • coverage: as required

application and advice

preparation
Mixing: By weight - 100 parts of resin to 15 parts of hardener.
Liquid working life: After mixing, the glue mix commences to thicken but will stay usable for between 30 minutes at 30 degrees C and 4½ hours at 10 degrees C. Higher temperatures will shorten the working life, lower temperatures will prolong it.

application
The mixed glue should be applied to one or both surfaces, which should be brought together while the glue is still wet. Spreading both surfaces permits longer assembly times. The two surfaces must be held under pressure (by clamps, screws, pins etc.) until the glue sets (normally overnight). For best results, the glue should be allowed to set at normal room temperature (15-25 degrees C / 59-77 degrees F). Very low temperatures will slow the setting time of the glue and should be avoided.
Cleaning tools and equipment: When set, there is no known solvent for Polyproof glue. Liquid glue may be removed from tools and containers by washing in warm soapy water.

caution
Protection of the hands - resin glues can cause dermatitis. A wet swab should be used frequently to prevent the glue from setting on the hands.

storage
Store in a cool, dry place with the lids tightly closed.

    application and advice

    application
Select base coat colour in vinyl silk emulsion/satin latex. Apply base coat and allow to dry for a minimum of 24 hours with ventilation.
Colour your Classic Colour with satin or matt emulsion. In warm conditions, above 21°c/70°f or in low humidity mix 6 parts Classic Colour to 1 part emulsion. In cold conditions, below 21°c/70°f or in high humidity mix 4 parts to 1 part emulsion.
Brush or roller the coloured glaze liberally over the base coat. Create the desired decorative effect by breaking the surface with a crumpled rag, bag, sponge or a Polyvine tool or brush.

    for use with emulsion
Designed to produce consistent cracking of emulsion paint. This acrylic medium creates dramatic two colour aged effects. The top coat cracks to reveal the base coat.

drying time: 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on temperature • coverage: 8 square metres per litre

    application and advice

    application
Choose two colours of matt emulsion paint, one for the base coat – the colour of the cracks, the other for the top coat. Apply the base coat and allow to dry. Seal with Polyvine Decorator’s Varnish. Mix the crackle glaze well. Apply in one direction and allow to dry. This coat must be smooth and even. If not, remove the glaze with a damp cloth and re-apply, working it into the surface with the brush before laying off to a smooth even coat. Apply the topcoat of matt emulsion, thinned with water to produce an easily flowing paint. Apply at right angles to the crackle glaze coat. Load brush with generous amount of paint and apply in one pass only, allowing the paint to flow off the brush. Do not over brush as this will mix the glaze and paint and no cracks will appear. The thickness of the topcoat determines the size of the cracks – the thicker the coat the wider the cracks.

    caution
Always try the technique on a test piece before embarking on the project. Walls and vertical surfaces need a lot of practice.

    storage
Protect from extremes of temperature during storage and application.

    application and advice

    application
Invert bottle to mix. Apply with a good quality brush. Craquelure performs very well between 16°c (60°f) and 21°c (70°f). Performance outside this range is impaired. Seal porous surfaces with the Top Coat before starting and allow to dry. Apply a liberal coating of Base Coat to the surface, avoiding brush marks and unevenness. Allow to dry – the milky appearance turns clear but the surface remains sticky. Apply a coating of Top Coat avoiding brush marks and unevenness. As the Top Coat dries, fine cracks will appear. If the temperature is too high, play a fan or cold hair dryer over the surface.
Use Polyvine Craquelure highlighter in dark or light to emphasise the craquelure effect - see swatches for effect.
For extra protection apply a coat of Top Coat.

    caution

    application and advice

    preparation
All surfaces must be clean and free from dust, dirt, oil and contamination.
Timber: Remove oils/resins from oily hardwoods and resinous softwoods. Sand to a smooth finish and remove all dust.

    application
Ensure the product is well mixed but do not shake. Use a good quality synthetic varnish brush and apply evenly using light brush strokes. Apply the first coat and allow to dry. To prime porous surfaces dilute with 10% water. Apply one or two further coats.

    caution
Always apply to a test area before starting work. Do not apply over uncured oil based paint. When applied over emulsion/latex paint, it is possible that the lacquer can draw certain stains through the paint, which would not otherwise be visible.

Protect from extremes of temperature during storage and application.

    application and advice

    preparation
All surfaces must be clean and free from dust, dirt, oil and contamination.

    application
Ensure the product is well mixed but do not shake. Thinly apply 2 to 3 coats of varnish. On porous surfaces dilute the first coat with 10% water. When using dead flat finish, for a high level of protection and stain resistance, apply 2 coats of satin then 1 coat of dead flat.

    caution
Always test for clarity over dark colours. Application over emulsion paint can draw contaminants through the paint film. Should not be applied over uncured oil based products. Test for compatibility before application. Not suitable for exterior bare timber or vinyl wall covering.

Do not empty into drains or watercourses.

drying time: 1-2 hours • recoat time: 4 hours • coverage: 15 square metres per litre

    application and advice

    preparation
All surfaces must be clean and free from dust, dirt, oil and contamination. Remove oils/resins from oily hardwoods and resinous softwoods. Treat new wood with a wood preservative to remove all traces of fungus and mould. Ensure pretreatment is compatible and completely dry, before application. Joints, end grain and glazing beads must be completely sealed. Water penetration into the timber will produce unsightly water staining and promote fungal growth beneath the clear varnish.
Instructions in the technical data sheet must be followed. Ensure the product is well mixed.

    application
Using a good quality brush, apply evenly using light brush strokes, following the grain of the wood. Keep a wet edge and avoid overlaps. Apply the first coat and allow to dry. On new wood dilute the first coat with 10% water. Sand lightly to obtain the best finish. Apply three coats.

    caution
Always apply to a test area before starting work. Care must be taken when applying in high temperature or direct sunlight as this will affect drying time. Do not apply when rain is imminent. Coating life will be reduced on horizontal surfaces and where the coating is in contact with the ground or pooled water.

    storage
Protect from extremes of temperature during storage and application.

    health, safety and the environment
Keep out of reach of children. Non-hazardous. Ensure good ventilation.
Contact with eyes - wash immediately with warm water. Remove excess from tools and mixing vessels before washing in warm soapy water.
Do not empty into drains or watercourses.

    preparation
All surfaces must be clean and free from dust, dirt, oil and contamination.

    application
Ensure the product is well mixed. Apply 2-3 coats of varnish and brush out well. On new wood and porous surfaces dilute the first coat 10% with white spirit. Lightly sand wood in between applications to remove any raising of the grain that may have occurred.

    caution
Always apply to a test area before starting work. Appearance may vary according to the colour and type of wood and the number of coats.
Avoid applying in cold or damp conditions as this will delay drying.

    storage
Protect from extremes of temperature during storage and application.

    health, safety and the environment
Flammable, keep away from sources of ignition - No Smoking. Keep out of reach of children. Use only in well ventilated areas. Ensure maximum ventilation during application and drying. Restrict interior use to large interior spaces or in confined spaces, wear a face mask which is designed to prevent inhalation of solvent vapours. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of soap and water or a proprietary skin cleanser - DO NOT USE SOLVENT, THINNERS OR WHITE SPIRIT. Remove excess from tools and mixing vessels before cleaning with white spirits. Toxic to aquatic organisms and may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment.

drying time: as per base mix instructions • recoat time: as per base mix instructions • curing time: as per base mix instructions • coverage: the same as the base mix - use 30g of glitter per litre

        application and advice

        preparation
Ensure product is well mixed and that all surfaces are clean and free from grease, oil, dirt and contaminants. Read the instructions and warnings carefully on the product you are mixing the glitter into before starting.

        application
Add the glitter gradually to your chosen paint or varnish while stirring slowly and thoroughly. We recommend 75g of glitter per 2.5L of paint or varnish, though you can choose to add more or less depending on the coverage you require. Use a smooth/gloss roller for best results and even distribution of glitter. The glitter will achieve its full effect when the paint or varnish is dry. We recommend trying on a test area first.

        caution
We recommend familiarising yourself with the effect on a small test area before starting work. The glitter may settle in the mix if left too long before application.

        storage
Protect from extremes of temperature during storage and application.

        health, safety and the environment
Keep out of reach of children. Read the instructions and warnings carefully on the product you are mixing the glitter into before starting. Contact with eyes – wash immediately with warm water. Do not empty excess mixed product into drains or watercourses.

        application and advice

        preparation
Ensure all surfaces are sound, clean, dry and free from rust and contamination. Lightly abrade previously painted surfaces before application to provide a key. Using a similar base coat colour will greatly increase the metallic covering power.

        application
Ensure the product is thoroughly mixed. Do not shake. Try a small test area first. Apply 2-3 coats as required with a good quality brush. Roller and spray application - refer to technical data. On porous surfaces dilute the first coat with 10% water.

        caution
Light reflection will accentuate brush/roller marks and imperfections in the background. The covering ability of this paint will vary with the colour. It is essential to do a test area before application. High temperatures or direct sunlight will affect working time.
Do not apply when rain is imminent.

          application and advice

          preparation
Ensure all surfaces are sound, clean, dry and free from rust and contamination. Lightly abrade previously painted surfaces before application to provide a key.

          application
Use by itself or mix a 50g acrylic colourant into a 500ml metallic shimmer. Ensure the product is thoroughly mixed. Try a small test area first. Apply 2-3 coats as required with a good quality brush. Roller and spray application - refer to technical data. On porous surfaces dilute the first coat with 10% water.

          caution
Light reflection will accentuate brush marks and imperfections in the background. The covering ability of this paint will vary with the colour. Using the same colour paint as a base coat will significantly improve the depth of colour. The metallic shimmer is a pearlescent white, the mixed colour will therefore be pastel. It is essential to do a test area before application. High temperatures or direct sunlight will affect working time. Do not apply when rain is imminent.

          storage
Protect from extremes of temperature during storage and application.

drying time: Base coat - 24 hours minimum. Scumble coat - 24 hours. • coverage: 15-20 square metres per litre depending on technique, when mixed with colourant

          application and advice

          application
Apply acrylic eggshell or alkyd undercoat in a colour suitable to create the desired effect and allow to dry for a minimum of 24 hours. It is recommended that the scumble is thinned with white spirit to ensure it’s applied in a relatively thin film. The appropriate viscosity will depend on the technique to be used. Colour your Scumble with Polyvine Woodgrain Oil Colourant, most oil based paints, or universal stainers. The use of a little white paint will stabilise delicate colours. Stir thoroughly. Brush the coloured Scumble over the base coat. Create the desired decorative effect by breaking the surface with a crumpled rag, bag, sponge or a Polyvine tool or brush. When the glaze is completely dry, seal with a coat of Polyvine Extra Pale Varnish.

          caution
Always test adhesion and the application of the effect on a trial area before starting.
Low temperature, poor ventilation and high film thickness will cause delayed final drying. Avoid applying in cold damp conditions as this will also delay final drying.
Scumble is prone to fading when exposed to strong sunlight for long periods. Scumble will turn dark if starved of light eg behind pictures etc. and is susceptible to severe yellowing in high temperatures.

          storage
Store in a cool, well ventilated area. Keep tin tightly closed.
Protect from extremes of temperature during storage and application.

          health, safety and the environment
Flammable, keep away from sources of ignition No Smoking. Keep out of reach of children.
Use only in well ventilated areas. Ensure maximum ventilation during application and drying. Restrict interior use to large interior spaces. In confined spaces, wear a face mask which is designed to prevent inhalation of solvent vapours.
Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of soap and water or a proprietary skin cleanser - DO NOT USE SOLVENT, THINNERS OR WHITE SPIRIT.Remove excess from tools and mixing vessels before cleaning with white spirits.
Toxic to aquatic organisms and may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment. Do not empty into drains or watercourses. Some local authorities have special facilities for disposing of waste coatings. To avoid risk of spilling, always transport and store in a secure upright position. Cloths contaminated with uncured scumble may self ignite without warning. Dispose of safely.
Lay out flat in single layers to dry out or wash in soapy water.

          application and advice

          application
Ensure that Scumble is well mixed. Select base coat colour in vinyl silk emulsion/satin latex or acrylic semi gloss/eggshell.
Apply base coat and allow to dry for a minimum of 24 hours with ventilation. For maximum open time seal with Polyvine Decorators Varnish. Colour your Scumble with Polyvine Universal Acrylic Colourant, mixing thoroughly. Brush or roller the coloured Scumble liberally over the base coat. Create the desired decorative effect by breaking the surface with a crumpled rag, bag, sponge or a Polyvine tool or brush.

          caution
Working time - the time that the glaze remains wet and able to create a pattern. To obtain the maximum working time - up to an hour - apply Scumble liberally in cool conditions on a completely non-porous base coat. Thickness of Scumble, temperature and humidity affect the working time.
In temperatures above 21ºc/70ºf, or for longer working time, use Tropical Scumble. Low temperature or high humidity increases drying time. Air movement is essential for faster drying.
Coverage/thickness of Scumble will affect drying time.

Do not empty into drains or watercourses.

              application and advice

              preparation
Do not use in temperatures below 5°c/40°f or in very high humidity. Stone and brick protector should be used as supplied, without dilution, by brush, spray or roller.

              application
              Mix well before use.
For general applications on masonry, brickwork and stone, a single application will be sufficient.

              caution
Always test on a trial area before application. Apply evenly and do not allow to pool in crevices. Test for clarity over dark colours.
NOTE: A chemical reaction could take place on some substrates such as glass, glazed surfaces, lead or aluminium. Mask these materials before application. In case of contact, rinse thoroughly with water immediately.

              storage
Store in unopened containers in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Protect from extremes of temperature during storage and application.

              health, safety and the environment
              Non-hazardous. Ensure good ventilation.
Keep out of reach of children.

drying time: Base coat - 24 hours minimum. Scumble coat - 24 hours. • recoat time: 1-5 days • coverage: approximately 10-20 square metres per litre

              application and advice

Create the desired decorative effect by breaking the surface with a crumpled rag, bag, sponge or a Polyvine tool or brush.

              caution
Always test adhesion and the application of the effect on a trial area before starting.
Low temperature or high humidity increases drying time. Air movement is essential for faster drying.
Coverage/thickness of Scumble will affect drying time.

              storage
Protect from extremes of temperature during storage and application.

              health, safety and the environment

                application and advice

                preparation
All surfaces must be clean and free from dust, dirt, oil and contamination.

                application
Ensure the product is well mixed but do not shake. Apply sparingly, brush out well using a good quality brush, following the direction of the grain. Apply the first coat and allow to dry.
clear varnish - apply a second coat.
coloured varnish - for a deeper shade apply a second coat. If the shade required is correct after the first coat, apply a coat of clear.

                caution
Always apply to a test area before starting work. Appearance may vary according to the colour and type of wood and the number of coats. Protect the finish from water and steam for five days after application.

                storage
Protect from extremes of temperature during storage and application.

                preparation
All surfaces must be clean and free from dust, dirt, oil and contamination. Remove oils and resins from oily hardwoods and resinous softwoods. Sand to a smooth finish and remove all dust.

                application
Ensure product is well mixed. Pour into a suitable container and mix with other colour if required. Apply generously with a good quality brush, working with the grain and keeping a wet edge. Wipe off any excess quickly to get an even finish.

                caution
Different woods and woodgrains will alter the appearance of the wood dye. Apply to a test area prior to application.
Polyvine Wood Dye seals the surface but for added protection apply Polyvine Wood Varnish, Polyvine Heavy Duty Wood Varnish, Polyvine Heavy Duty Floor Varnish, Polyvine Dead Flat Floor Varnish or Polyvine Exterior Varnish.

                application and advice

                preparation
New timber should be clean, non-oily and thoroughly dry. Remove all old coatings to bare wood. If the timber is not pressure treated apply an appropriate wood preservative. Instructions in the technical data sheet must be followed. Stir thoroughly.

                application
For best results use a clean, lint free cloth. Apply a thin even coat in the direction of the grain, work the oil into the grain of the wood ensuring complete saturation of the timber. When dry (minimum 12 hours), apply a second coat. Do not apply below 5° C.

                caution
Always apply to a test area before starting work. Do not apply when rain is imminent. Timbers containing high natural oils, e.g. Teak and Iroko, may inhibit drying and cause impaired adhesion. Wiping surface with methylated spirit will assist penetration. Application rollers, sponges and pads, or clothes soaked in this product, may spontaneously combust if left. Dispose of after soaking in water. Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding.

                storage
Protect from extremes of temperature during storage and application.

                health, safety and the environment
Keep out the reach of children. If swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and show this container or label. Use only in well ventilated areas.
Do not empty into drains, dispose of this material and its container at hazardous or special waste collection point.

                application and advice

                preparation
All surfaces must be clean and free from dust, dirt, oil and contamination. Remove oils/resins from oily hardwoods and resinous softwoods. Treat new wood with a wood preservative to remove all traces of fungus and mould. Ensure pre-treatment is completely dry before application. Joints, end grain and glazing beads must be completely sealed. Water penetration into timber will produce unsightly water staining and promote fungal growth.

                application
Instructions in the technical data sheet must be followed. Ensure the product is well mixed.

Do not empty into drains or watercourses.

                application and advice

                preparation
Mix by either weight or volume. Mixing by weight will give the most accurate and consistent glue mixes. Use two parts Cascamite powder to one part cold water. If mixing by volume, 3.5 measures of Cascamite powder are required to 1 measure of cold water.
For both methods mix as follows:
                1. Put half the cold water into a non metallic mixing vessel.
                2. Add all the Cascamite powder and stir until dissolved.
                3. Add all the remaining water and stir until the mixture is smooth.
                4. It is now ready for use and will remain usable for about 1 hour at 15°c

                application
Use a stiff brush to apply adhesive to one surface only. Assemble and clamp (pin or screw) the joint whilst the glue is still wet. Keep the joint under pressure until set (around 6 hours at 15°c, longer at lower temperatures).
A damp cloth should be used to remove excess wet adhesive from the joint.

                caution
Synthetic glues may cause dermatitis in some people. As a precaution, any glue spilt on the hands should be removed immediately with soap and water before it sets.
Avoid the formation or spread of dust in the air. Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection.

                storage
Store in a cool, dry place with the lid tightly closed.

                health, safety and the environment
Ensure good ventilation. Keep out of reach of children. Contact with eyes - wash immediately with warm water. Remove excess from tools and mixing vessels before washing in warm soapy water.
Do not empty into drains or watercourses.

                1. Put half the cold water into a non-metallic mixing vessel.
                2. Add all the powder and stir until dissolved (very thick and sticky).
                3. Add all the remaining water and stir until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
                4. It is now ready for use and will remain usable for 1 hour at 30°c, 4 hours at 20°c, 8 hours at 10°c. Raise the temperature to cure glue. Placing the mixing vessel in a bath of cold/ice water will greatly extend the working time.

                application and advice

                preparation
                application
Apply 2 coats of clear Chalk Paint Waxer Satin with a varnishing brush over dry chalk paint. Allow waxer to dry.
This seals the chalk paint to enable the working of the antique waxer over the surface.

                application
To obtain your antique/aged finish apply Chalk Paint Antiquing Waxer with a varnishing brush and lightly remove any excess with a soft cloth to age and give texture to your paintwork. Work into the paint to highlight brush strokes, cracks and mouldings. This process will leave a silk finish.
If a completely dead flat final finish is required, apply Chalk Paint Waxer Dead Flat.

                caution
Always apply to a test area before starting work. Appearance may vary according to the colour and type of surface being varnished and the number of coats. Protect the finish from water and steam for five days after application.

                storage
Protect from extremes of temperature during storage and application.

                health, safety and the environment
                Non-hazardous. Ensure good ventilation.
Keep out of reach of children. Contact with eyes - wash immediately with warm water. Remove excess from tools and mixing vessels before washing in warm soapy water. Do not empty into drains or watercourses.
